Death and Destiny

In 1979 Mythra released the seminal Death and Destiny EP.

Self financed, Death and Destiny was recorded at Guardian Studios in England by John Roach - lead guitar, Peter Melsom - bass, Maurice Bates - guitar, Vince High - vocals, Barry Hopper - drums and produced by Terry Gavaghan.

Mythra were acknowledged by Lars Ulrich as an early Metallica influence - compare the style of Death and Destiny with 'Kill 'Em All'. This site is devoted to the cult, influential, New Wave of British Heavy Metal band Mythra and the seminal Death and Destiny recordings for which they were renowned.
Influenced by Black Sabbath and so called first generation 'heavy rock' groups. At the tail end of the 1970's Mythra were swimming against the Punk Rock tide to satisfy the legions of rock fans in the North East of England who didn't subscribe to the claim that Heavy Metal was dead. When other bands called it a day, Mythra, with their youthfull arrogance, decided to take a leaf out of the 'New Wave' book and release their own record.

Geoff Barton, of the influencial British Music weekly 'Sounds', was quick to spot the Mythra potential and his recommendation started the demand that kept Death and Destiny in the Alternative Chart for 12 weeks. Following in their wake, it wasn't long before a tide of new 'Heavy Metal' releases issued from the two North East studios of the time, the 'brand new' Gaurdian and the established Impulse Studios - this prompted the 'Sounds' tag NWOBHMNED or New Wave of British Heavy Metal - North East Division. There have been many claims to the title first or best - all we say is check the dates, listen to the tracks and decide for yourself....

The site contains a detailed history of Mythra, clips from articles written in the music press at the time, quotes from key people in the music industry, interviews and a selection of photographs from the Mythra archives. There are no animations or other distractions on this sight - so that it loads quickly - there are however some large images which may take some time to download - please be patient you will be well rewarded. The plan is to fully document this important and influential heavy metal band - to get behind the mystery and the legend......

The Darkener

The new MYTHRA album is now complete.

A few copies of the CD have been circulated to a lucky few worldwide - the response has been excellent. All we need now is a deal. It's a shame that most labels who profess to be interested in MYTHRA are only interested in historical recordings - or mythical live recordings and demos.

In the mean time there seems to be only one way to get the recording into the hands of the fans and that is to finance it ourselves.

Hey, we did it before in 1979 when only the fans and the press were interested so we will do it again!
